Ersilia - Step to the Rhythm of the Stones

Ersilia is the musical love child of Kate Whelen and Fausto Caceres.

Our improvisations wind down trails toward scenes in imaginary films. They move through a spectrum of themes filled with evocative sounds, textures, rhythms and melody. It is sometimes melancholic, sometimes buoyant, alien, idiosyncratic, mysterious, dramatic. Sometimes it is a pure and simple texture - but it’s always a journey, a dream we take together and invite the listener along.

Each track is an excerpt from one of several continuous 2-hour improvisations, recorded live with samplers, effects, pianos, synthesizers, field recordings, mbiras, mouth harps, wind chimes, bells, whistles, cicadas, feedback and gongs.

All tracks recorded in the Banana Hut Hideaway studio, at the foot of Cangshan mountain, in Dali, Yunnan Province, China between May-September 2019.
